Journal 03 - Tony Jaa One Shot
Sep 28, 2012After watching the various examples of long shots in class, I immediately thought of this fight scene starring Tony Jaa. What makes this scene different is that it is very action oriented. The camera follows Jaa's character as he moves up a spiral staircase while fighting a number of thugs along the way.
Since I have been involved with stunts and fight choreography, I'm aware of how incredibly difficult it can be to get the right shots and how time consuming it can be to learn the choreography. To be able to choreograph a 4 minute long fight that involves this much movement and this many stuntmen must have taken a significant amount of planning. Making sure that every fight was believable, every fall was safe, and none of the mats or film gear was in the shot absolutely astonishes me, and definitely makes this a very memorable scene.
Journal 02 - Ford Fiesta TV Spot
This commercial for the Ford Fiesta demonstrates flawless and clever transitions through positioning and theme. The edit is beautifully paced and encompasses such a wide variety of experiences and lifestyles into such a short period of time. It also does this seamlessly, as the transitions are so well aligned and in sync with the music. The alignment and pacing allow for the smooth transition of otherwise very jarringly different scenes.
I feel that this is an example of a piece where video and audio work in harmony to evoke such a powerful sense of adventure. I thought this entry would be especially relevant given that our assignment is based on experimenting with transitions.
Journal 01 - CHDK
CHDK aka Canon Hack Development Kit allows for added functionality of Canon point and shoot cameras. Features include the ability to shoot in RAW, HDR, and Time Lapse (through the use of scripts). Other notable features are motion detection and using the USB port to operate the camera remotely. CHDK lives on the SD card so no changes are actually made to the camera itself.
